Saint Mary’s University goaltender Rebecca Clark and UNB Varsity Reds goalie Alex Dubeau are the Atlantic University Sport Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 11.

Female Athlete of the Week

Rebecca Clark from U Sports No. 2-ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies women’s hockey team is the Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week.

A third-year goaltender from Keswick, Ont., Clark was named the most valuable player of the AUS Women’s Hockey Championship.

The Huskies captured their third consecutive AUS title Tuesday in Antigonish, N.S., after topping the X-Women 1-0 in Game 3 of the best-of-3 final series. Clark made 30 saves for the shutout and the win.

In five playoff games, Clark finished with a save percentage of .922, a win percentage of .800 and a goals against average of 1.57.

The Huskies now advance to the U Sports women’s hockey championship that takes place this week at Western University in London, Ont. Saint Mary’s will face the Saskatchewan Huskies in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. AT Thursday.

Alex Dubeau of the defending U Sports champion and No. 1-ranked UNB Varsity Reds men’s hockey team is the Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week.

A third-year goaltender from Mascouche, Que., Dubeau was named the most valuable player of the AUS Men’s Hockey Championship.

The Varsity Reds claimed the 2018 AUS conference title Wednesday night after sweeping the defending AUS champion StFX X-Men in two games in the best-of-3 championship final series.

Dubeau made 19 saves Monday night as the Varsity Reds claimed a 6-3 victory in Fredericton, N.B. in Game 1.

He made another 19 saves for a shutout in Wednesday night’s 5-0 win in Game 2 to sweep the series.

Undefeated in five playoff games, Dubeau finished with a save percentage of .940 and a goals against average of 1.37 in the postseason.

The Varsity Reds are this year’s hosts of the U Sports University Cup. They will face Concordia in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. AT Thursday.
