HALIFAX, N.S. (from Dalhousie Tigers) — The Cape Breton Capers led from start to finish to defeat the Dalhousie Tigers 61-48 in an AUS women’s basketball action at the Dalplex.
In the first quarter, the scoring was slow to get things started, with it only being 8-2 for the Capers after the first five minutes. Cape Breton stretched the lead to 15-6 after the first quarter.
The second quarter played out to be more even with each team scoring 14 points, which gave the Capers a 29-20 lead at halftime.
The Tigers didn’t let the game get too out of reach in the third quarter, but Cape Breton still led 41-30 going into the final frame.
The Capers were led by Subway Player of the Game Hannah Brown (North Sydney, NS), who had a team-leading 15 points and 14 rebounds to get the double-double. Alison Keough (Marion Bridge, NS) also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards.
The Tigers were powered by Robertha Charles (Montreal, QC), who had a game-high 16 points and also chipped in seven rebounds. Karina May (Moncton, NB) added six points and six boards for the Tigers.
The Capers play next tomorrow at 6 pm AST against the Acadia Axemen in Wolfville, while the Tigers’ next game is next Thursday against the Axemen, also at 6 pm AST in Wolfville.
