Rebels end Rockets’ win streak in 3-2 OT win

RED DEER, Alta. (from Kelowna Rockets) — The Red Deer Rebels defeated the Kelowna Rockets 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at the ENMAX Centrium.

It took until 14:41 into the second period but Leif Mattson (Stonewall, Man.) got the Rockets on the board first. Rebels forward Mason McCarty (Blackie, Alta.) matched the Rockets’ goal at 17:33 and the teams headed into the locker rooms with the scoreline at 1-1.

Red Deer native Josh Tarzwell began the third with an early shorthanded goal to pull the Rebels ahead by one. Red Deer held that lead until the last 33 seconds when Kole Lind (Shaunavon, Sask.) scored late and sent the Rockets to overtime for their third game in a row.

Kristian Reichel (Litvinov, Czech Republic) ended the Rockets win streak at three after scoring on a rebound at 2:46.

Kelowna’s goalie Cole Tisdale (Lethbridge, Alta.) stopped 19 of 22 shots he faced, and his record is now 2-0-1-0. Kelowna outshot Red Deer 43-22.

The Rockets’ record now falls to 31-14-3-1.

Kelowna will be back home at Prospera Place on Tuesday when it faces the Medicine Hat Tigers.
