TORONTO (from Toronto Varsity Blues) – The Varsity Blues women’s basketball team dropped a 72-54 decision to the No. 3 Carleton Ravens on Friday night at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
Keyira Parkes sustained her impressive play in 2018. The third-year guard nailed four 3-pointers for a game-high 19 points; however, Carleton’s all-around attack was too much for Toronto to handle.
The Blues record drops to 5-12, but they still hold the final playoff spot in the OUA East division. Carleton remains undefeated at 17-0.
From the opening tip, Toronto jumped out to a 9-2 lead on the No. 3 team in the nation. Parkes netted a team-high five points and was one of seven Blues to score at least two points as Toronto led 20-19 after the first quarter. It marked the first time Carleton surrendered 20 or more points after the opening 10 minutes this season.
The Ravens flexed their muscles in the second though. They rallied out an 11-0 run to regain the advantage heading into halftime, 30-23.
The Blues never backed down throughout the contest. In the fourth quarter, they went on a 12-3 run to cut the deficit to 12, but weren’t able to get any closer.
Heather Lindsay put up a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds. She was one of four Ravens to notch at least 10 points in the win.
U of T continues their national capital weekend when they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees at 6 p.m. ET Saturday at Goldring Centre.
