Kelowna Rockets begin Alberta road trip with OT win over Lethbridge Hurricanes

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. (from Kelowna Rockets) – The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday night at the Enmax Centre.

It took until 20 seconds into the second period but Kaedan Korczak (2) got the Rockets on the board first. Jadon Joseph (5) replied for the Hurricanes 12 seconds later. Kole Lind (23) pulled the Rockets ahead once again at 10:02 on a Kelowna power play, but at 18:14 Jordy Bellerive (31) made it a 2-2 game and that was the score headed into the final frame.

Igor Merezhko (4) gave the Hurricanes their first lead of the evening at 14:00 of the final stanza. Lethbridge would hold that lead until only 38 seconds remaining when Carsen Twarynski scored his team-leading 31st to even things up and send the game to overtime tied at 3-3.

After a back-and-forth overtime period Lind (24) ended the Hurricanes’ hopes with just 27 seconds left and the Rockets took it 4-3.

The Rockets enjoyed multi-point evenings from Lind (2G, 2A), Twarynski (1G, 1A), and Nolan Foote (2A).

Cole Tisdale, 15, made his second consecutive start stopping 25 of the 28 shots he faced. The Rockets outshot the Hurricanes 49-28. Tisdale’s record is now 2-0-0-0.

Kelowna’s record improves to 30-14-2-1.

The Rockets are back in action at 6:30 p.m. PT Friday when they take on the Medicine Hat Tigers. Kelowna then heads to Red Deer for a match against the Rebels at 6 p.m. PT Saturday.

The Rockets will be back on home ice on Tuesday for a rematch against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
